   Instuctions To Obtain A Learners Permit

Option #1-Branch Office

Applicant may appear at any motor vehicle branch office with the following documents:

* Driver Education Course Completion Certificate

* Original Birth Certificate or Passport

* Proof of residency-a document containing your name and address.You may visit the Department of motor vehicle website, http://www.maine.gov/sos/bmv/licenses/residency.htm, for a list of acceptable documents.

* If everything is in order, a learners permit will be issued on site.

* Please consult the Bureau of motor vehicle website for Branch office locations. http://www.maine.gov/sos/bmv/locations/index.html

 

Option #2-Main Office

Applicant may mail the following documents to the Bureau of motor vehicle main office:

* Driver Education Course Completion Certificate

* Original birth certificate or passport

* If everything is in order, a learners permit will be issued through standard mail. Please allow 2 – 4 weeks for processing and delivery.

 

DRIVER EDUCATION SCHOOLS WILL NO LONGER ISSUE PERMITS……

*** lEARNERS PERMIT LOG HOURS ARE INCREASED TO A TOTAL OF 70 HOURS OF WHICH 10 HOURS HAS TO BE NIGHT TIME DRIVING.
